La serie di palazzoni sarebbe costata $50 milioni circa e avrebbe occupato la zona est di Manhattan a ridosso dell\u2019East River all\u2019altezza della 14esima strada. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\">La controversa decisione arriv\u00f2 dopo un\u2019udienza che dur\u00f2 per pi\u00f9 di tre ore e mezza; dato che molti erano logicamente contro una tale decisione. Solo pochi giorni prima del voto il chairman di Met Life, Frederick Ecker, aveva detto alla stampa che \u201cbianchi e neri non si mischiano\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\">La legge proibiva discriminazione in progetti residenziali costruiti dallo Stato ma non in quelli privati. E nonostante il coinvolgimento della citt\u00e0, Stuy Town era considerata un progetto privato. I primi appartamenti furono terminati nel 1947. Due anni dopo la corte dello Stato di New York dette ragione a Met Life contro dei veterani di colore della seconda guerra mondiale che fecero causa per abitare nel complesso.
