The penthouse at 220 Central Park South that billionaire Ken Griffin bought in January for a ridiculous $239,958,219 (that was the exact purchase price..don’t ask me why) set a record for the most anyone has ever paid for a home in the United States.

Griffin’s penthouse —a combination of two units— measures approximately 24,000 square feet, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Griffin went into contract for it back in 2015 and we see the transaction now, so this closing reflects “luxury golden age” prices and not the current market environment aka “luxury sloowww age”.

Griffin is a bit of a real estate addict. He has also purchased a house in London for about $122 million and several floors of the Chicago condominium No.9 Walton for $58.75 million. The hedge funder set a Miami record in 2015 when he spent $60 million on a penthouse at Faena House. Good for him! We need more of those!
