Flight to Florida? Data show few Manhattanites moved permanently

Headline after headline made it seem like half of Manhattan had moved to Florida for good.

Reality check: Only a small percentage of Manhattanites relocated permanently to Florida last year. And as vaccinations amp up, many might be returning — or changing their plans to move in the first place, according to Bloomberg News.

Only 2,246 people filed a permanent address change from Manhattan to Miami-Dade County last year, while 1,741 went to Palm Beach County.

NYC Restaurants to allow 50% capacity

New York City restaurants are on a rapid pace to reopening. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that restaurants in the city will increase indoor dining capacity to 50 percent starting March 19.

“In New York State, our decisions are based on science and data and we are encouraged by the continued decline in infection and hospitalization rates,” Cuomo said in a statement.

Florida Saw The Second Highest Population Growth Of Any State Over The Past Year

In just a single year ending in 2020, Florida’s resident population increased by 241,256, the agency said.

The data covers changes between July 2019 and July 2020. The figures were released on December 22.

Next year, those numbers could rise even faster as a result of thepandemic.

In the second half of the year, Miami’s real estate market rose to a new record high, with analysts saying that migration trends to Florida were accelerating as a result of covid-19.

Cuomo announces plan to get workers back to offices

US home prices jump at record rate

The median cost of a single-family home jumped 12 percent in the third quarter to $313,500, marking the biggest year-over-year increase since 2013, according to data from the National Association of Realtors that was first reported by Bloomberg.
