In Broward County, condo sales dollar volume drops to $320M

Total condo sales for May amounted to $320 million, down from $338 million in April. The number of closed sales decreased to 954 units, compared to 979 in April and 841 in March, as reported by Multiple Listing Service data from Redfin.

Sale prices in May ranged widely, from $51,000 to $3.1 million, with a median sale price of $240,000. The price per square foot varied between $72 and $1,277, with a median of $239 per square foot.

Cost of living in South Florida outpaces national average

South Florida’s cost of living surpasses the national average. When an index of 100 represents the national average cost of living across 269 cities, Miami and Fort Lauderdale had index values of 115.3 and 118.3, respectively, in the third quarter of 2023.

Notably, if Manhattan were considered separately, it would lead with an index value of 227.8.

Fort Lauderdale Votes To Move Forward On Elon Musk Tunnel System Study

Fort Lauderdale commissioners voted to approve moving forward on a feasibility study for an underground transportation system using a network of tunnels designed by Elon Musk’s The Boring Company.

The system will be known as The Olas Loop, and will initially run 2.7 miles.

It won’t be a traditional mass-transit system, but will instead use Tesla cars that will be open to the public, which will ride through the underground tunnels.

New Fort Lauderdale retail space is leasing quickly. Outdoor seating is key.

Society Las Olas, a new residential-mixed use building in Fort Lauderdale, has filled 44% of its retail space. The draw? Outdoor seating.

Health-conscious eatery Pura Vida Miami recently leased 1,600 square feet. Virginia-based Thompson Hospitality signed a 6,000-square-foot lease, dividing 4,500 square feet for Matchbox Restaurants and about 1,500 square feet to Big Buns Damn Good Burger. All are expected to open during the first quarter 2021.
