The business partnership between JDS Development Group founder Michael Stern and Italian entrepreneur Gianluca Vacchi has completely dissolved into a massive legal battle involving a $4 billion pipeline of Miami real estate. Vacchi filed a lawsuit accusing Stern of executing a “deliberated and calculated fraud” and operating a Ponzi scheme regarding his $60 million investment. According to Vacchi, Stern misrepresented the status of high-profile developments—including the Dolce & Gabbana-branded 888 Brickell and Mercedes-Benz Places Miami—and improperly diverted funds between projects while violating a subsequent $42.5 million settlement agreement.
Stern has fiercely countered, preparing a lawsuit that accuses Vacchi of defamation, lacking business experience, and failing to meet capital obligations due to liquidity shortages. Stern claims Vacchi’s actions caused $500 million in damages. Amidst this turmoil, Stern has already lost control of one Miami Beach site, while the Mercedes-Benz Places project currently faces a foreclosure lawsuit.
