Office occupancy hits pandemic high

There have never been more office employees going into offices across the United States since the onset of the pandemic, but the in-office population is still less than half of pre-pandemic levels.

A record number of employees were back at the office for the week of March 30, according to Kastle Systems’ “Back to Work Barometer”. While that’s positive news for the office market, the level marked only 42 percent of pre-pandemic levels.

City’s tallest warehouse could be coming to Queens

The Goodman Group, an Australian company that owns what’s billed as the largest logistics center in the world is coming to Long Island City, where it could develop the city’s tallest warehouse.

Design sketches in the marketing materials show a building of nearly 700,000 square feet across five above-ground floors. Several of those floors, though, are double-height. So from the street, the building would appear to be as tall as roughly an 11-story office building.

Manhattan’s retail loss is outer boroughs’ gain

Manhattan retailers are still waiting for the return of tourists to 5th Avenue and employees to Midtown offices, but some retail corridors outside of the central business district have seen metrics return almost to where they were before the pandemic.

Vacancies and rents in the Bronx’s main retail area, Fordham Road, are near normal, the New York Times reported. The vacancy rate is 3 percent, according to the Fordham Road Business Improvement District.

Madison Avenue retail buildings sell for record low price

Three retail buildings on Madison Avenue have sold for a combined $45 million, a price that represents a new low for the posh shopping district.

The luxury retailer Akris will buy three properties at 831, 835 and 837 Madison Avenue between East 69th and 70th Streets for $45 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal includes three ground-floor retail spaces, along with 15 residential units.
